Android – What, Where and Why?
Android is a Linux based operating system for mobile devices and a complete software package for devices such as tablet, computers and smartphones.
It’s backbone is firmly supported by big tech-giant Google and later the OHA (Open Handset Alliance). The goal of android project is to create a successful real-world product that improves the mobile experience for end users, and at the same time is open source for the users and developers. Also being supported by Google and launched on more than a billion mobile devices, Android has it’sown App Market lead by Google and named Google Play. Thus App developers find it a lot more appealing than any other mobile platform and can easily boost up their earning.

What is Open Handset Alliance (OHA) ?
It’s a well formed consortium of about 84 companies such as Google, Samsung, AKM, Synaptics, KDDI, Garmin, Teleca, E bay, Intel etc. It was established on 5th November, 2007, and led by Google. The group is committed to advance open standards, provide services and deploy handsets using the Android Platform, moreover they are pre-informed of all the upcoming advancements and changes to take place in the next release of Android version.
There are many advantages of android. They are as follows:

Customization is upto the developer.
There are a million mobile applications that can be chosen by the consumer.
It provides many interesting features like weather details, opening screen, live RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds etc.
It provides support for messaging services(SMS and MMS), web browser, storage (SQLite), connectivity (GSM, CDMA, Blue Tooth, Wi-Fi etc.), media, handset layout etc.
